Digital Marketing Interview Preparation #
Interview preparation should combine fundamentals, role-specific knowledge, practical reasoning and clear examples of how you work. Do not memorise definitions without understanding when to apply them.
Topics to revise #
- Fundamentals: Objectives, target audience, positioning, funnel, customer journey and KPIs.
- SEO: Search intent, crawling, indexing, technical checks, on-page optimisation and Search Console.
- PPC: Campaign structure, keywords, negatives, bidding, conversion tracking, CTR, CPC and CPA.
- Social and content: Content pillars, calendars, community management, distribution and reporting.
- Email: Consent, segmentation, automation, deliverability and lifecycle metrics.
- Analytics: Events, conversions, attribution, UTM parameters, data quality and dashboards.
- CRO: User friction, hypotheses, testing and conversion-rate calculation.
Common questions to practise #
- How would you plan a campaign for a new service with a limited budget?
- How would you diagnose falling organic traffic?
- What would you investigate if cost per lead increased?
- How do you select KPIs for an awareness campaign versus a lead-generation campaign?
- How would you validate conversion tracking?
- Describe a time you received feedback or corrected an error.
- How would you explain a disappointing campaign result to a stakeholder?
Structure practical answers #
Clarify the objective and constraints, identify evidence to inspect, propose prioritised actions, define success metrics and explain risks. State assumptions rather than pretending missing data is known.
Use STAR for behavioural questions #
Situation: context. Task: your responsibility. Action: what you personally did. Result: the verified outcome or lesson. If you lack direct professional experience, use a clearly identified academic or self-initiated project.
Practice plan #
Prepare a 60-second introduction, revise one channel per day, practise metric calculations, present two portfolio projects and run a mock interview. Prepare thoughtful questions about team goals, measurement standards, responsibilities and learning opportunities.
