# Predictive Analytics

**Predictive analytics** uses statistical methods and machine-learning models to estimate the likelihood of future outcomes from available data. In marketing, it can support demand forecasts, lead prioritization, churn-risk estimation, campaign response prediction and customer lifetime value estimates.

## Common use cases

- Forecasting sales, traffic or campaign demand.
- Estimating which leads are more likely to qualify or convert.
- Identifying customers who may need retention support.
- Estimating response to offers or channels.
- Planning inventory or campaign timing from demand signals.

## Typical workflow

1. Define the decision the prediction will support.
2. Specify the target outcome and prediction time horizon.
3. Assemble relevant, lawful and sufficiently representative data.
4. Split data appropriately into training, validation and test sets.
5. Compare the model with a simple baseline and select suitable metrics.
6. Deploy with clear action rules, monitoring and human review.

## Understand model performance

Accuracy alone can be misleading, especially when the outcome is rare. Depending on the use case, precision, recall, calibration, lift, error size or ranking quality may matter more. Evaluate performance across relevant customer groups and across time, not only on an average score.

## Prediction is not causation

A model may identify people likely to buy without proving that a particular marketing message caused the purchase. To estimate incremental impact, use controlled experiments or other credible causal methods where feasible. Do not assume that targeting the highest predicted responders always maximizes incremental revenue.

## Governance and monitoring

Check data permissions, privacy, fairness, drift and explainability. Record model versions and decisions. Monitor whether outcomes change as customer behavior or market conditions evolve, and retrain or retire models when needed.

## Key takeaway

Predictive analytics improves decisions when predictions are calibrated, evaluated against a baseline and connected to a well-defined action. It informs judgment; it does not eliminate uncertainty.
